Anti-bridging & Forced Feeding System

EFB raw material has long, fluffy fibers that are prone to arching. This pellet mill is equipped with a dedicated anti-bridging feeder, whose reverse rotating shafts continuously disperse materials to prevent bridging.

Before entering the granulation chamber, the material pass through a forced feeder, it pushes materials horizontally into the pressing chamber via screws and blades. It ensures steady and even feeding to ring dies and rollers, effectively stopping production downtime caused by empty material flow.

Ring Die & Roller Assembly

We fabricate the ring die with 42CrMo‑alloy steel and apply carburizing treatment to boost its surface hardness. It offers far better wear resistance than stainless steel dies on common feed pellet mills against continuous abrasion from EFB fibers.

Alloy steel roller shells with optimized working areas are also applied. The well-matched components sustain stable output and reliable pellet quality for abrasive biomass raw materials.

High-torque Power System

The main motor adopts a 6 to 8-pole design. It runs at a lower speed yet generates far higher torque than the 4-pole motors used on ordinary pellet mills.

This configuration is customized for high-fiber, difficult-to-form materials like EFB and sawdust. Low speed and high torque provide sufficient compression to form dense pellets, , while reducing the impact load during equipment operation and extending the service life of core components.

Fitted with heavy-duty dual-shaft agitators, twin-screw cutting feeders and 200-250kW 8-stage high-torque motors, this machine perfectly handles wet EFB with 40% moisture content and fibers up to 50cm long. It effectively prevents material clogging and fiber tangling during operation.

Meanwhile, the EFB pellet mill’s feeder can operate continuously for 8 hours without cleaning. Tailored for local conditions, it is the ideal solution for processing palm oil waste across Southeast Asia.

Excellent Combustion

Optimized with a compression ratio from 6 to 12, the pellet mill is specially built for EFB biomass fuel production. The finished pellets feature high density, solid texture, smooth surface and extremely low breakage rate. Its calorific value reaches 3900-4800 kcal/kg and fully meets fuel standards of Japanese biomass power plants.

The finished granules are moisture-resistant and suitable for long-distance sea transport, at the same time, pellet ash can be reused as organic potash fertilizer to achieve sustainable resource recycling.

Cuts Maintenance Costs

EFB contains silicate compounds that cause severe abrasion to metal parts. To end this, both the carburized ring die and roller shells of the EFB pellet mill are made of wear-resistant alloy steel, boasting a far longer service life than ordinary stainless steel components.

The wear of the ring die flare can be repaired with a special machine, further reducing the frequency of parts replacement. Meanwhile, equipped with shear pin protection, the unit cuts power automatically against hard debris to protect the main machine and slash long-term maintenance costs.

Less Manual Work

We deliver a complete automatic production line covering drying, crushing, pelleting, cooling and packaging, fully controlled by the PLC system. Operators only need to monitor the line remotely in the control room and stay away from harmful EFB dust and acid steam.

At the same time, robotic palletizing is available as an optional upgrade to reduce labor work. Built-in automatic fault alarm ensures the whole line runs safely and reliably all the time.

Shredding

Fresh EFB bunches with moisture content of 60-70% are conveyed into the shredder. The moving and fixed blades on the blade shaft work together to shred EFB into small pieces of 5-10cm, while tearing apart the fibers and removing any attached pulp residue.

Drying

Shredded EFB is processed in a three-cylinder drum dryer heated by 500℃ hot air furnace. Its special structure enables circulating material movement for high thermal efficiency, reducing the moisture content of the material to 18-25%. Spark arrester and explosion-proof doors are installed for fire prevention.

Grinding

Semi-dry EFB is ground by a hammer mill fitted with 6-8mm screen. Tungsten carbide welded hammers produce 3-5mm fine fiber powder. Air conveying, double cyclone and pulse dust collector work together, supported by high-torque motor for tough EFB fibers.

Pelletizing

The shredded EFB powder is fed into the pellet mill via a heavy-duty anti-bridging hopper and a dedicated twin screw feeder with cutters to effectively prevent fiber tangling. Meanwhile, the high-strength 42CrMo alloy steel ring die adopts a compression ratio of 1:8-1:12 for consistent, reliable pellet formation.

Cooling

Hot pellets at around 90℃ enter the counter-flow cooler. Its interior with stainless steel and anti-corrosion coating resists acid steam damage. After 15-20 minutes of cold air circulation, pellets cool to room temperature with 10-12% final moisture.

Cooled pellets go through vibrating sieve to separate fine dust, then qualified products enter the silo, while unqualified materials are reprocessed. EFB pellets absorb moisture easily. Store them in a dry warehouse. Add desiccants for sea shipping.

What is EFB and what are the benefits of turning it into pellets?

EFB, or Empty Fruit Bunch, is fibrous waste from palm oil production. Southeast Asia produces millions of tons of it annually. Traditional disposal like burning and landfilling causes severe pollution. Pelletizing reduces its volume to one-tenth, greatly easing storage and transport. The finished pellets work well as biomass fuel or raw material for activated carbon, making it an ideal solution to recycle palm oil waste.

Why is EFB pelletizing more difficult than wood pelletizing?

EFB features long tough fibers, 60-70% high moisture content, potassium salts and sandy soil that wear and corrode machines. Its sugar content also leads to carbonization under heat. We adopt shredders, cutting screw feeders and three-cylinder dryers, plus wear-resistant dies, rollers and temperature control. Our upgraded pellet mills have run reliably in many Southeast Asian projects.

What are the main applications of finished EFB pellets?

EFB pellets have three major applications. They serve as eco-friendly biomass fuel for power plants and industrial boilers. After carbonization and activation, they become high-value activated carbon for water treatment, air purification and gold extraction. They can also be processed into potassium-rich organic fertilizer. We will adjust the production process according to the different uses of our customers.

What professional anti-corrosion measures do EFB production lines require?

EFB contains organic acids that corrode equipment under high temperature and humidity. All material contact parts adopt 304 stainless steel plating, paired with acid and alkali resistant fluororubber seals. Negative pressure ventilation discharges corrosive steam outdoors, while rings dies and rollers use anti-corrosion alloys. These slight extra investments ensure stable and long-term operation of the whole production line.

What safety protection features does the EFB pellet machine equip?

Our EFB pellet mill is equipped with multi-level safety protections for stable and safe operation. A Iron removal device at the feeding section keeps iron scraps from damaging ring dies and rollers. The main drive has overload protection to cut power and trigger alarms amid abnormal current. Star-delta starting lessens motor impact. Safety limit switches on all access doors stop operation if doors are open, fully protecting operators.

Any cost-effective simple line refusing full-automatic pellet plants?

We provide a split semi-automatic production solution divided into three independent modules: crushing, drying, and pelletizing with cooling and packaging. Material transportation relies on forklifts and manual work. This solution only requires a 6-meter workshop height and saves costs on steel structures and automatic components. However, its labor costs may be high and it may generate dust pollution.
