This Malaysian EFB pellet production line started with a short email in April 2022: “Raw material is oil palm EFB – please quote.” It took nearly three years of discussions, feasibility
studies, and actual material testing before the contract was signed on February 14, 2025. Total equipment investment: $249,220. The client, a seasoned plantation manager, was
sitting on over 15,000 tons of EFB per year from his mill – and paying good money to dispose of it. His goal? Turn that liability into a business.

Coastal EFB Biomass Pellet Production Plant (Schematic Rendering)

At 12,000–14,000 tons per year, the financial outlook is strong:

· EFB pellet price in Malaysia: $70–90/ton
· Carbonized pellet price: $120–150/ton (local and export)
· Feedstock cost: close to zero (plantation waste)
· Expected payback: 2–3 years

Once carbonized pellets start moving into Japan and Korea, margins expand further. The client also gains a carbon credit angle – biochar production helps reduce emissions, which appeals to premium buyers and green investors alike. In our experience, that’s where the real long-term value sits.
