Variable-speed & Anti-bridging Feeder

The extruder is equipped with a round hopper featuring an anti-bridging function to prevent caking of high-starch and high-fat materials. Meanwhile, a variable-frequency screw feeder could adjust feed rate precisely.

Combined with main motor speed control, the fish feed pellet extruder regulates expansion rate and bulk density via screw speed: higher RPM boosts mechanical energy for fully expanded floating feed, while lower RPM adapts to sinking feed production needs flexibly.

Single & Twin Screw Options

Both single-screw and twin-screw models are available. Single-screw units rely on barrel-material friction for conveying, offering a simple, cost-effective solution for standard floating fish feed (fat ≤8%).

However, the twin-screw models use co-rotating fully intermeshing design with forced conveying and self-cleaning functions. They handle high-fat, high-moisture materials efficiently, ideal for high-value shrimp feed and pet food with narrow residence time distribution and uniform cooking.

Precision Die & Cutter Unit

The die plate is made of quenched alloy steel with hole diameters ranging from 0.6 to 20 mm. For floating fish feed, a die open area of 200–250 mm² per ton/hour is recommended. Smaller holes create high pressure drop, causing rapid moisture evaporation to form a porous structure.

The spring steel cutter, driven by a variable-frequency motor, has an adjustable base to keep blades close to the die, precisely controlling pellet length for uniform and neat appearance.

Materials undergo high temperature, high pressure and strong shearing inside the extrusion chamber. This fully gelatinizes starch and denatures protein, delivering a cooking rate far above ordinary pellet mills.

For floating fish feed with starch content over 20%, the bulk weight is controlled at 320-400g/L after extrusion. It could improve feed conversion rate and eliminate anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors and gossypol, eventually, effectively protecting the intestinal health of fish.

Multi-density Feed Making

You can produce floating, slow-sinking and sinking feed by adjusting formulas, screw speed, die hole area, conditioning moisture and temperature. Floating feed under 420g/L stays on water for over 12 hours for easy feeding monitoring and less waste.

However, slow-sinking feed at 420-480g/L suits fish living in middle water layers. This single machine handles multiple feed types, saving you extra investment in additional production equipment.

Strong Water Resistance

Extruded feed features a porous interior and dense smooth surface, so it stays intact in water for hours. The resulting floating pellets do not sink and rot, thus preventing water contamination.

Additionally, post-sprayed oil penetrates pellets and releases gradually, boosting energy supply and prolonging water stability. Compared with hard pellets, extruded floating feed greatly cuts water pollution, lowers fish mortality and achieves higher stocking density in aquaculture ponds.

High-fat Coating

Single-screw extruders limit raw material oil content to under 8%, while twin-screw models tolerate up to 17%. After drying, porous pellets receive an extra 8% to 12% oil coating in drum coaters, bringing total oil content to 15%-17%.

The post-coating could prevent heat damage to heat-sensitive vitamins and amino acids. Oil adheres evenly across pellets, perfectly meeting the production requirements of high-energy aquatic feed for commercial farming.

Grinding

Fishmeal, soybean meal, and grain ingredients are finely ground in a pulverizer to achieve a flour-like consistency. This fine particle size is critical for water stability and uniform hydration, and it also facilitates efficient starch gelatinization during the subsequent high-temperature extrusion process.

Mixing

The ground materials are batched per the nutritional formula using load-cell scales, then transferred to a high-intensity mixer. There they are combined with water, steam, and fish oils to create a moist, cohesive mash that ensures even distribution of micro-ingredients and optimal binding for extrusion.

Extrusion

Uniform materials are fed into the extrusion chamber via variable-frequency feeders. Under high temperature and pressure, starch gelatinizes fully and protein denatures. Rapid pressure drop after extrusion vaporizes moisture, forming a porous structure that enables stable floating performance.

Drying

Fresh extruded pellets with high moisture are dehydrated by mesh belt dryers at 90-100℃ to reduce moisture below 10%. The post-ripening process stabilizes pellet structure, further improves water resistance and storage performance, and effectively prevents mildew and deterioration.

Spraying

Dried pellets go through drum coaters under vacuum or normal pressure for oil spraying. Oil evenly penetrates the porous structure to enhance palatability and water stability. This low-temperature process could protect heat-sensitive nutrients from thermal damage during production.

Cooling & packaging

Oil-coated pellets are cooled to room temperature to avoid caking and deformation. Meanwhile, vibrating screens remove fine powder and broken pellets for uniform finished products. Then qualified pellets are quantitatively packed by automatic packaging machines for inventory and delivery.

The core difference lies in bulk density. Floating feed is 320–420 g/L while sinking feed is over 480 g/L. High temperature inside the extruder harms vitamins and enzymes. We adopt post-spraying to solve this problem. These sensitive ingredients are mixed with oil or water and sprayed onto warm porous pellets after drying. It ensures accurate dosage and avoids heat damage.

Why avoid screw conveyors for extruded pellets?

Extruded granules have a porous structure. Screw conveyors will crush them into fines that pollute water. Use air conveying from extruder to dryer, Z-type bucket elevators between processes, and belt conveyors after cooling. Keep away from any equipment that causes extrusion, shearing or strong vibration.
