Variable-frequency Feeding System

Sawdust features ultra-high fluidity, which easily causes free-flow runaway and uneven feeding with conventional feeders. The RICHI MZLH series adopts variable-frequency dual-screw feeders plus outlet gate valves to realize stepless feeding adjustment across all speeds.

Its 304 stainless steel polished casing avoids material adhesion and consistently delivers even, stable sawdust into the pelletizing chamber for smooth production.

Ratio Alloy Steel Ring Die

Raw sawdust measures merely 1-3mm, requiring no high compression for molding, so a customized low-compression ring die greatly boosts production efficiency. Made of 42CrMo alloy steel with carburizing hardening treatment, the die delivers outstanding wear resistance and long service life.

It adopts a 1:6 to 1:8 low compression ratio, standard 6mm and 8mm holes, and over 40% opening rate. The unique counterbore inlet and stepped outlet structure effectively reduces die clogging and carbon deposition risks.

Main Motor & Blockage Cleaning Device

Equipped with customized 22kW-250kW 8-pole low-speed high-torque main motors, the machine features sufficient power, strong extrusion force and lower energy consumption for long-term high-intensity sawdust pelletizing.

A dedicated quick-clean opening is designed on the pellet chamber cover. Operators can clear die blockage through compressed air or manual pins easily, without disassembling the heavy ring die, which greatly reduces downtime and improves overall production efficiency.

Preprocessing

Sawdust sourced from sawmills and furniture plants is conveyed onto vibrating screens to remove stones and coarse wood scraps. For iron-containing impurities, a suspended iron separator can be added. Then, the fully cleaned fine sawdust is stored in buffer bins for subsequent processing.

Drying

Rotary dryers with 300–400℃ hot air reduce sawdust moisture to 13%-18% if raw material exceeds 18% moisture. Fine granular sawdust dries quickly, and properly dried feedstock skips drying to save considerable energy and production expenses.

Pelletizing

Clean sawdust is fed evenly via variable-frequency twin-screw feeders into sawdust pellet mill chambers fitted with 42CrMo ring dies of 1:6-1:8 ratio above 40% open area. Equipped with 8-pole high-torque motors, the unit delivers stable continuous extrusion for fine sawdust.

Cooling

What are the differences between sawdust pelletizing and wood chip pelletizing?

Fine sawdust (1-3mm) is easier to pelletize than 3-5mm wood chips with distinct production requirements. It features ultra-high fluidity, requiring frequency-conversion feeders to avoid free-flow runaway. Meanwhile, adopting a 1:6-1:8 low compression ratio, the output is higher than that of wood pelleting. In short, sawdust pellets have polished surfaces, stable heat value, lower costs and larger profit margins.

Why do sawdust pellets require a lower die compression ratio than wood pellets?

Fine sawdust has large contact areas and natural adhesion without fiber grinding, so a 1:6-1:8 low compression ratio suffices for molding. It reduces die resistance, increases output and slows die wear. An excessively high compression ratio can actually make the particles more prone to cracking. We recommend : 1:7-1:8 for hardwood sawdust (oak) and 1:6-1:7 for softwood sawdust (pine). First-time buyers are advised to run trial tests to confirm the optimal compression ratio.

What are the main application scenarios of finished sawdust pellets?

With ultra-low ash and high calorific value, sawdust pellets are premium biomass fuels for multiple scenarios. They suit European residential fireplace heating and high-standard clean boilers in food and pharmaceutical factories. They also serve as WPC fillers and water-absorbent animal bedding. Priced 10%-20% higher, they fit the ENplus A1 high-end market with great profit potential.

Do we need extra binders when making pellets from pure sawdust?

No extra binder is required normally, for natural lignin inside sawdust softens under high heat and pressure to bond particles well. Add binders only for overly dry sawdust, low-lignin softwood or high-density export-grade pellets. Since binders raise production cost, tweak moisture and compression ratio first. Additive-free pellets gain higher popularity among global eco-focused buyers.

Why does the sawdust pelletizer’s main motor surge in current and trip suddenly in operation?

Such abnormal conditions mostly stem from machine jamming with three common causes: overfeeding clogs the pressing granulation chamber, overly wet feedstock slips without forming pellets, or unseasoned new dies plus trapped debris lock the die. Pause feeding immediately and restart slowly later; the fitted overload protector prevents costly damage to the main driving motor.

Any cost-effective simple line refusing full-automatic pellet plants?

We supply a split semi-automatic solution separated into three standalone sections: chipping & crushing, drying, as well as pelletizing, cooling and packing. Materials are transferred by forklift or manpower.
