From truck arrival to bagged feed—here’s how raw ingredients become finished pig pellets. Each step matters. Oversize the wrong conveyor, undersize the conditioner, and you’ll choke a 30 t/h plant with a bottleneck that costs thousands per day.

Raw Material Pretreatment

Truck intake pit → bucket elevator → drum pre-cleaner (removes stones, rope, paper) → permanent magnet (traps iron) → storage silos or bins. First line of defense for equipment protection.

Grinding

Material flows to hammer mill via variable-speed feeder. Screen size matched to feed type: fine (1.2 mm) for piglet feed, coarser (2.5–3.0 mm) for finishing rations. Negative-pressure system aids discharge.

Ingredients & Mixing

Computer-controlled batching system weighs each ingredient per recipe. Major ingredients first, micro-ingredients (vitamins, drugs) added later. Twin-shaft mixer—homogeneity CV ≤ 5%.

Pelleting

Conditioning with steam (70–110°C)—gelatinizes starch, kills bacteria, binds particles. Pellet mill compresses material through ring die. Compression ratio depends on feed type: 1:5 for piglet, 1:6–8 for grower.

Cooling & Crumbling

Counterflow cooler reduces pellet temperature to room temp + 3–5°C. Crumblers break large pellets into smaller particles for piglet feed. Proper cooling = durable pellets that survive transport.

Screening & Packaging

Rotary screener removes fines and oversized pellets. Finished product drops to storage bins. Automatic scale bags at 10–50 kg/bag. Conveyor → palletizing → warehouse.

What types of pig feed can be processed?

Two ways to classify what your plant produces: by physical form—pellets, meal, or extruded—and by nutrition level—premix, concentrate, or complete feed. Each demands a different process setup and equipment configuration.

Pelleted Feed

Compressed, cylindrical particles formed from mixed ingredients. Dense and uniform, they reduce waste, prevent selective eating, and improve digestibility. The go‑to choice for commercial pig operations. Available in various diameters—from 2 mm for piglets up to 5 mm for finishing hogs.

Mash / Meal Feed

A simple ground blend of grains, protein meals, minerals, and additives. No compaction or heating. Cost‑effective and straightforward, but prone to ingredient separation during transport. Often used on farms with their own pelleting equipment, or as a base for further on‑site processing.

Extruded / Expanded Feed

Light, porous, highly digestible particles produced through high‑temperature, high‑pressure treatment. Often used for piglet starters or specialty diets. They float briefly in water and have excellent palatability. Premium product with higher market value than standard pellets.

Pig Premix

A concentrated blend of vitamins, trace minerals, amino acids, antibiotics, and other micro‑ingredients, carried on a fine inert base. It represents 1–5% of the final diet. Not fed straight—it’s the nutritional core that gets diluted into complete or concentrate feeds.

Pig Concentrate

A protein‑rich intermediate—premix combined with high‑protein meals (soybean, fish, or rapeseed). Usually makes up 30–40% of the final ration. Farmers add their own local grains (corn, wheat, barley) to produce a complete feed, offering flexibility and lower transport costs.

Complete / Compound Feed

Ready‑to‑feed, nutritionally balanced. Contains everything the pig needs—energy, protein, minerals, vitamins, and additives—in one bag. No extra mixing required. The standard product for commercial pig farms, available as pellets or mash to suit different feeding systems.
